There are many school functions that we have attended and many that we have participated in as well. But this was different. Nabneer School, Chetla, a school for the kids from the less fortunate section of the society, organized their annual function on 14.05.2013.

What made it different? For starters, considering that these students have parents who work very hard just to make ends meet, the enthusiasm of the kids was almost infectious. In fact, it got one of our Anavi members to participate as well. Mrs. Sangita Mukherjee choreographed the dance performed by young kids and her son did the recital while the dance drama was performed on stage. Dedicated and inspired by the work of the great Rabindranath Tagore, the function comprised of many stage performances from recitals of Rabindranath's poems to dance dramas to solo performances. They also had a wonderful audience comprising of inmates of Nabneer Old Age home , the members of Anavi and their families and also many other people. The reasons this is special for Anavi - We have a strong association with this institute. A major chunk of the running cost of this school is borne by Anavi. In addition to the monthly contribution we also donate in kind to the kids for whom getting two square meals a day is no mean task.

To see such enthusiasm in these kids for learning as well as for arts is pleasantly surprising. It is simply amazing to see the kids perform considering all the hardships they face in their day to day lives. We do our bit in helping these kids realize their dreams. We wish the schools and its students all the best for their future - for it these kids who are also the future of our country.
